Broad Band Light (BBL)

BBL Laser Treatment

Light therapy is one way in which the skin can be rejuvenated, resurfaced, and returned to its natural, healthy state. At H/K/B Cosmetic Surgery in Charlotte, North Carolina, we’re pleased to provide our patients with an array of light treatment options, specifically focusing on broad band light, or BBL laser treatment.

Over time, your skin begins to exhibit visible signs of aging. This is largely unavoidable, stemming from everyday wear-and-tear. For example, your skin may take on lasting damage due to exposure to the sun’s harsh rays, to say nothing of acne scars and other unwanted blemishes.

We’d love to tell you more about what BBL light therapy is, how it works, and what you can expect from a BBL session.

What is BBL Laser Treatment & BBL Light Therapy?

The Sciton BBL laser treatment that we use will leave your skin looking clearer, smoother, and younger with improved pigmentation and vascularity throughout. Common issues such as rosacea, pigmentation, age spots, and overall skin dullness are addressed easily with this simple treatment.

This unique technology safely and comfortably delivers light therapy into the skin, targeting the signs of aging, sun damage, and vascularities such as broken capillaries. Overall, the result is a rejuvenated and youthful appearance.

The Sciton BBL Laser treatment helps with a wide variety of conditions; for those struggling with an uneven skin tone, BBL can remove age spots, freckles, and dark pigmentation. It is also an ideal option for targeting redness, small blood vessels, and areas of broken capillaries.

All areas of the face and body can be treated; some of the most common areas are those that receive the most exposure to the sun, such as the face, neck, chest, décolleté, shoulders, arms, and hands.

Sciton BBL uses the power of light energy to leave the skin looking refreshed and more youthful. Patients experience a more even skin tone and better overall skin quality in just a few treatments.

What Does the BBL Laser Treatment Address?

Sciton BBL laser treatment can help patients struggling with concerns such as:

  • Age spots
  • Freckles
  • Small facial veins
  • Pigmentation
  • Rosacea
  • Redness and flushing
  • Poikiloderma

The treatment itself is very comfortable and tolerable. A warm sensation follows each pulse of the device as light energy is absorbed by the skin.

The procedure may take anywhere from a few minutes up to half an hour depending on the size of the area being treated.

The best part about BBL is that it’s non-invasive, gentle, and requires virtually no downtime. Most patients experience some pinkness or redness for the first few hours but are able to return to work, apply makeup, and resume most activities right away.

For those who are curious about BBL light treatment in Charlotte, NC, it may be helpful to take a closer look at what each session entails, as well as what you can expect when each session concludes.

What to Expect After BBL Laser Treatment

For those who are curious about BBL light treatment in Charlotte, NC, it may be helpful to take a closer look at what each session entails, as well as what you can expect when each session concludes.

While anesthesia is not needed for BBL therapy, we do want our patients to be as safe and as comfortable as possible. For this reason, we’ll ask patients to wear safety shields or glasses, ensuring the eyes are not damaged by laser emissions. Most patients tell us that the procedure isn’t painful, though it may cause a warming sensation at the treated area. Some patients describe it as a “rubber band snap” feeling.
The duration of each BBL session depends on the size of the treatment area. For larger surface areas, a single treatment may take half an hour. For smaller areas, it may be just a few minutes.
Most patients will require more than one session to get optimal results. The specific number of sessions required varies from patient to patient, but the average number of sessions is three. These sessions can be spaced out over three or four weeks. If you have questions about the number of sessions you’ll need to resolve your concerns, feel free to reach out to H/K/B Cosmetic Surgery to set up a consultation.
As for what patients can expect after their treatment, it’s common to have a little bit of redness at the treatment site. Usually, this will last for no more than two or three hours. You may also notice that the treated area darkens and then begins to flake off, as new, healthier skin is formed. While there’s no need for a post-procedure downtime, and you’re welcome to go straight back to school or to work, you may need to alter your daily skincare routine for a few weeks. Your provider will give you additional information, and give you any specialized products you need to take care of your skin. Additionally, it’s important to shield the treated area from direct sun exposure for a few days. This may simply involve wearing a hat, scarf, or gloves, depending on the area you had treated.

Who’s a Good Candidate for BBL Light Therapy?

The BBL laser treatment is more effective for some than for others. Generally, those who have lighter skin tones get the best results. Additionally, we often advise patients not to come in for BBL during the summer, when their skin may be a little tanner than normal.

If you have any questions about your eligibility, or whether you’d make a good BBL treatment candidate, please make an appointment with us at any time. We’d love to help you make an informed decision about BBL.
