Fat Transfer

Have you ever had unwanted fat on one part of your body that you wish you could transfer to an area where you need more fullness? Well, now you can! Using liposuction techniques, we can transfer fatty tissue from one area of the body to another.

For example, if you would like to have rounder buttocks, we can often use your own fat to accomplish a more natural look. Even if an implant is required for the result you want, fat grafts provide better contouring and prevent the implant from being seen from under the skin. For this same reason, we also frequently use fat grafting during breast augmentation.

Fat transfer reduces a problem area while enhancing another part of the body, but if you do not wish to reduce any existing curves, we will harvest only enough fat needed for the grafts.

At H/K/B, we use a new technique that causes less disruption to the harvested fat cells. What does this mean for you? More of the fat that is injected will “take,” which means that less of the fat will be absorbed by the body. When fat is absorbed, it sometimes causes the need for a second injection procedure. Our technique also allows us to perform fat grafting faster than in the past with less downtime for you.

After the fat is harvested, it is treated and then re-injected into the body where additional volume is needed. Our surgeons are experts at both liposuction and contouring of the body using liposuction and fat injections, providing H/K/B patients with excellent results.

What can I expect during fat grafting for the body?

Liposuction and fat grafting can be performed on an outpatient basis using general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation at our fully accredited surgical facility on our beautiful campus, where our highly qualified nurses will pamper you. Our nurses are certified in advanced cardiac life support, which ensures the highest level of supervision, evaluation, and care in the unlikely event of an emergency. We also work with board-certified anesthesiologists.

In the liposuction portion of the process, an incision is made on the part of the body where the fat will be removed, and a tube called a cannula is inserted. A vacuum-like device is attached to the cannula, and suction removes the appropriate amount of fat.

The fat is then carefully processed. The resulting fat is very smooth in texture so that it will look perfectly natural when re-injected into the desired area of the body using a fine needle. For the injection portion, a topical anesthetic or local anesthetic may be used.

Since your own tissue is used, there are no issues with rejection. No lengthy incisions are necessary with this procedure, and the incisions can be closed with delicate dissolving sutures that leave the finest of scars.

What can fat grafting for the body do for me?

Fat injections can contour areas of the body, such as the buttocks or breasts.

How long does it take to recover from fat grafting for the body?

A compression garment may be provided for the area where the fat was harvested, as well as the donor site. You can expect bruising, swelling, and soreness in both areas, which can be managed with pain medication and ice packs. Recovery takes one to two weeks, and strenuous activities should be avoided for about four weeks.

Of course, we will monitor your progress in follow-up examinations and will always be available to answer any questions you have while you heal.

How long does fat grafting for the body last?

A small amount may be absorbed by the body during the first three months. After that, the remaining grafted fat is long lasting.

Fat Grafting for the Buttocks

Do you wish your bottom was rounder, fuller, or more lifted? Fat grafting is a state-of-the-art technique that allows you to reduce one area of the body and enhance the buttocks. Using liposuction techniques, we can transfer fatty tissue from an area such as the abdomen, thighs, flanks, or hips to the buttocks in order to make them rounder and higher.

Even if an implant is required for the result you want, we can also use fat transfer for better contouring. As a result, the implant cannot be seen through the skin.

What can fat grafting for the buttocks do for me?

If your buttocks are drooping with lax skin, if they have lost fullness and roundness, or if you feel your bottom is too flat, a Brazilian butt lift can restore a pleasing contour and shape to both the buttocks and the lateral thighs. Your bottom will be perky, smooth, and rounded per your preference.

How long does it take to recover from fat grafting for the buttocks?

You must sit very cautiously for the first few weeks. We generally recommend avoiding pressure on the buttocks for 2 weeks. You can return to work within one to two weeks or when you’re comfortable. There will be swelling, bruising, and soreness in both the area where the fat was harvested and the injection sites on the buttocks. Swelling may take up to 3 months to fully resolve, but we will give you a compression garment to wear that will help to keep swelling to a minimum.

Strenuous activities should be avoided for 4-6 weeks. Of course, we will monitor your progress, see you for follow-up examinations, and answer any questions you have during your recovery period.
